It’s been a tragic weekend for the music community as organizers of Okeechobee confirm a death of one attendee. WBRZ News identified the attendee as Steven Nguyen, 26 year old from Louisiana. Okeechobee took place from March 3-5, spanning across three days.
The past weekend the EDM community surfaced on Twitter and reddit to beg the state of Florida, authorities and Okeechobee organizers for news on the death. According to the Okeechobee county Sheriff’s office investigators are looking into an “apparent drowning” that they say took place between late Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Nguyen’s family and friends frantically tried to receive information on the speculated events on the weekend from Insomniac events. Their plea was finally answered today. The Okeechobee organizers took to social media to release a statement.
Out of respect to those affected by this tragedy, we have refrained from commenting prematurely. We will continue to provide our full support to the authorities, who are determining the cause.
