Miami’s Iconic Nikki Beach to Close in 2027

For those familiar with the vibrant landscape of South Beach, Nikki Beach is far more than a mere beach club. Over the past two decades, the venue has established itself as one of Miami’s most recognizable lifestyle destinations, seamlessly blending music, luxury dining, and high-end nightlife directly on the sand. However, following years of legal disputes and uncertainty regarding the property’s future, the venue has officially confirmed it will cease operations in 2027.

A Final Chapter for a Miami Landmark

The legendary venue has secured a temporary extension, allowing it to remain open until August 6, 2027. This timeline was established following a settlement between the City of Miami Beach, the current ownership of Nikki Beach, and the Boucher Brothers, the hospitality group slated to take over the site.

Located at 1 Ocean Drive, the property has long been a defining feature of the Miami experience. Originally operating as Penrod’s Beach Club in the late 1980s, the site was transformed in 1998 into the Nikki Café—named in honor of Nicole Penrod, the daughter of founder Jack Penrod. This evolution eventually birthed the global Nikki Beach brand, which now boasts locations in major travel hubs across Europe and the Middle East.

The Future of 1 Ocean Drive

The closure stems from the expiration of the venue’s lease on city-owned land. Following a competitive bidding process, the city opted to move forward with a new vision for the prime oceanfront real estate. The incoming development, led by the Boucher Brothers and Major Food Group, aims to modernize the space with a luxury beachfront concept. Plans reportedly include a variety of high-end dining options, such as Mediterranean cuisine, Japanese teppanyaki, and a new location for Sadelle’s Café.

We have another 15 months to create unforgettable memories with our guests, honor our incredible team, and close this chapter with the spirit and passion that have defined Nikki Beach from the very beginning. — Lucia Penrod

Despite the bittersweet nature of the announcement, owner Lucia Penrod emphasized that the extension provides a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the venue’s legacy. For locals and international visitors alike—particularly those who frequent the area during Miami Music Week and Art Basel—the next 15 months represent a final chance to experience a cornerstone of South Beach culture before the property undergoes its transformation.
