Progressive house champion Cristoph takes control of BBC 1 Radio with his essential mix. This two-hour mix features music from the Adana Twins, Cirez D, and exclusive new singles from the maestro. Aired last Friday on January 15th, relive the auditory journey here.
Firstly, it starts off with Everything But The Girl’s ‘Missing’ as a private intro edit. He flows into the next track with a Knee Deep in Sound track. As the tempo starts off slow, it progresses into a hypnotic trance of electronic synths. Everything rests at a comfortable 125 bpm so that each song transitions smoothly into the next. As a result, dancing to this can be quite pleasurable. Some of his tracks like ‘Illusions’ give off a retro 80s, underground vibe with the sensual male vocals. Up next is ‘C3Po’ by the Adana Twins, and this techno infused track is cryptic and robotic. ‘Out Of Reach’ is a collaboration with Yotto and this appears on the mix as well. Pryda Presents gets a little shout out on here, along with music from Afterlife and Anjunadeep. Pryda’s ‘Europa’ gets a Cristoph edit as well, bringing darker tones to your ears.
About halfway through, we see his very own Anjuna track ‘SFB’ make an appearance to keep the momentum going. An emotional track that leaves you wanting more, another ID of his follows along with Cirez D’s ‘Glow (In The Dark Dub)’. As he closes out the mix with some Depeche Mode and a Jeremy Olander edit, the journey through time and space comes to a close.
This showcases just how much the Newcastle based producer knows his craft. With releases on Pryda Presents, Bedrock, Last Night On Earth, Truesoul, and Knee Deep In Sound, this man is the name for progressive. He cultivated his skills at a young age, being born into a family of DJs. Developing an insatiable drive and drawing inspiration from John Digweed and Sasha’s masterful approaches to production, he continues to flourish today.
