The Checkup (@thecheckupmusic) has returned to his own Heattraxx imprint with Aguas Congas, a collaborative EP with Italian house mainstay Tuccillo. Released on May 8, 2026, the project also features a remix from Reboot, further cementing a release that prioritizes club movement, precise arrangement, and the subtle details that define a standout DJ set.
The title track sets the tone with shuffling drums and understated vocals, while tracks like “Snare Love” and “Free My Soul” explore deeper, looser house territories. This release serves as a perfect case study for The Checkup’s broader philosophy: that creative relationships and long-term community are the true engines of an artist’s path.
The Power of Connection
Reflecting on his career, The Checkup highlights the importance of genuine human connection. He points to his relationship with Leo Janeiro as a pivotal moment in his development. “One of my best friends, Leo Janeiro, was an incredible meeting for me in my path as a DJ in Brazil,” he explains. “I got to discover a culture I love, make new connections, and play in the best clubs and festivals of the country. It’s an incredible gift, and I am truly grateful for that long-lasting relationship.”
For The Checkup, choosing collaborators is less about industry optics and more about a shared vision for the dancefloor. “I think that the mutual love for house music and understanding that we are making music for the dancefloor is key,” he says. “I don’t really think too much about where I will release the music; we just want to make a meaningful impact on any given dancefloor.”

Building a Sustainable Community
When asked how he identifies a community that aligns with his goals, The Checkup emphasizes integrity. “I’ve never liked it when I’m surrounded by people who only think about business and moving ahead,” he notes. “I learned a long time ago that you should just stick to your craft and passion. If you surround yourself with people who believe in you and want the same thing, you can only move forward.”
This philosophy extends to his label, Heattraxx, which acts as a vessel for his vision. By collaborating with artists like Ale Castro, Dj Merci, and Tuccillo, he has created a space that celebrates the diverse shades of house while maintaining a cohesive identity. “I love collaborating with artists because it’s more fun together and very motivating,” he adds.

Looking Ahead
While collaboration remains a cornerstone of his work, The Checkup is also looking forward to returning to his solo roots. “I will slowly get back to making my own music so I can fully express myself and see all the cool things I learned and how I evolved over the years as a producer and as a DJ,” he says. Ultimately, his focus remains on the dancefloor—the final arbiter of whether a record truly works.
