A New Collaborative Chapter
Uniting for a hedonistic collaboration, esteemed Spanish producer Dosem returns to Purified Records alongside Korean-American talent SOHMI for The Light. Complete with an official remix by Montreal-based artist Sinca, The Light EP is out now.
Driven by a steady groove and hypnotic textures, The Light unfolds across an alluring, club-ready sonic journey that highlights Dosem and SOHMI’s undeniable musical synergy. Anchored by SOHMI’s enchanting vocals, the producers build a captivating arrangement that keeps listeners transfixed from start to finish.
The Creative Process
Reflecting on the collaboration, Dosem noted that the connection felt immediate following their previous work on ‘Answer.’ He emphasized that the duo spent several months testing the record on dancefloors, refining the balance between energy, elegance, and emotion. For Dosem, the process was guided more by instinct than technical constraints, allowing the track to find its own voice early on.
SOHMI echoed these sentiments, revealing that the original vocal demo was one of her earliest projects in Ableton, dating back nearly seven years. She credited Dosem’s ability to breathe new life into the idea, noting that his production style perfectly complements her vocal approach. The release also features a remix by Sinca, which SOHMI described as a mystical interpretation that elevated the project to new heights.
Sinca’s Rhythmic Dimension
Balancing dancefloor energy with the track’s slow-burning essence, Sinca brings her own rhythmic dimension to the remix. By introducing unexpected percussion and a driving main drop, she showcases the aptitude that has earned her support from industry heavyweights. Sinca expressed her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting how the combination of Dosem’s signature acid textures and SOHMI’s sensual vocals provided a rich landscape for her to explore.
Artist Profiles and Legacy
With a career spanning nearly 15 years, Dosem remains a pillar of the Spanish underground scene, known for his meticulous fusion of textured atmospheres and driving rhythms. SOHMI, who emerged in 2020, has quickly established herself as a singular talent, blending soulful pop/R&B elements with underground house and techno. Meanwhile, Sinca continues to rise as a global voice in the house movement, supported by mentors like John Digweed and recognized as a ‘Future of Dance’ artist.
The artwork for The Light, captured by Kelsey Williamson, serves as a visual homage to the ocean—a central theme for the Purified label. The release not only highlights the artists’ musical prowess but also draws attention to the importance of ocean conservation and the ongoing efforts of the Ocean Exploration Trust.
