As wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles, acclaimed EDM/House artist Irene Michaels is stepping up to help. She has pledged to donate all proceeds from her multi-award-winning hit “I Like Rain” to wildfire relief efforts, with legendary Chicago-based label TRAX Records joining in by donating their share of the revenue as well.
The decision to use “I Like Rain” as a relief effort anthem resonates deeply, as Los Angeles communities continue to pray for rain amid the ongoing disaster.
First responders are working tirelessly to contain the active wildfires, which have already claimed 24 lives and destroyed 53,000 structures in the Palisades alone, making this the most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history. Homes, businesses, schools, and places of worship have been reduced to ashes, leaving thousands displaced and communities shattered.
“I Like Rain,” co-written by Irene Michaels and composer Michael Levine, has been recognized with multiple accolades, including “Best Pop Song of the Year” at the Josie Music Awards at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and the Get Out Magazine Award in New York City, both in 2023. To amplify the impact of the track, house music legend Joe Smooth has contributed a powerful remix to the release.
Rachael Cain, President of TRAX Records, expressed their commitment to the cause:
“Our hearts go out to the people of Los Angeles, and we just wanted to do something to help.”
Irene Michaels shared her heartfelt message of support:
“My heart is with you, my prayers are with you, I’m here for any of you.”
Beyond this initiative, there is a call to action for the music industry to rally together. While streaming revenues alone may not be substantial, if every label donates proceeds from just one artist, it could make a real difference in supporting wildfire relief efforts.
