Typhoon Bebinica has entered the East China Sea and is expected to make landfall this weekend, prompting Insomniac to cancel this year’s edition of EDC China.
As raging wildfires in Southern California led Insomniac to cancel this year’s edition of Nocturnal Wonderland, a festival hosted by the promoter on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, has also seen mother nature rear its head. Today, EDC China has been canceled due to the impending arrival of Typhoon Bebinica, which is set to make landfall during the festival’s September 15-16 dates.
Typhoon Bebinica strengthened significantly when it entered the East China Sea late Saturday night in China Standard Time. According to the New York Times, the typhoon had sustained wind speeds of 75 miles per hour, which would classify it as a Category 1 hurricane if it was in the Atlantic Ocean. While the storm is currently over Southern Japanese islands, its damaging winds and excessive rainfall are anticipated to hit Eastern China as early as Sunday morning.
This has led Suzhou, the host city of EDC China west of Shanghai, to enact its Typhoon Defense Emergency plan, which Insomniac is complying with by canceling the festival. “We understand how much this festival means to you, and we share in your disappointment,” said Insomniac on Instagram. “The energy and enthusiasm of our community are what make EDC special, and we were truly looking forward to celebrating together.”

This year’s edition of EDC China was set to take place at Yang Cheng Lake Resort in Suzhou. Artists slated to perform included AFROJACK and R3HAB, 999999999, The Chainsmokers, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Marshmello, Subtronics, Valentino Khan, Paul Van Dyk, Axwell, Brennan Heart, Maddix, and more.
