After transforming thousands of lives across Australia and New Zealand, Your Shot, the world’s only no-experience-necessary DJ competition and music academy, is set to make its highly anticipated U.S. debut this fall. The program will launch in New York City and Los Angeles, bringing its unique blend of training, mentorship, and community to aspiring American DJs.
Founded in 2010 and boasting over 12,500 past participants, Your Shot was created to democratize DJ culture, giving young people the opportunity to step behind the decks regardless of background, income, or experience. Built on the philosophy that everyone deserves “their shot,” the program combines a reimagined DJ competition format with beginner-friendly instruction. With a strong focus on social inclusion, accessibility, and community, Your Shot empowers participants to explore creativity and connect with like-minded peers.
“Your Shot is about giving people a platform to challenge themselves, learn the basics, build a community outside their bedrooms, and take their passion for DJing and dance music to the next level,” says Steve Pillemer, Founder and CEO of Your Shot. “That’s what young Americans are asking for today, just like young Australians, and it’s so exciting to finally be able to answer the call.”
Following a selection process, 200 participants in each city will receive six weeks of expert-led instruction at The Academy, covering everything from mixing and music selection to live performance. After training, contestants showcase their skills at sold-out, festival-style events in front of fans, industry judges, and talent scouts. The program emphasizes both technical proficiency and personal growth, helping participants find their creative voice, build confidence, and foster supportive communities.

Winners of Your Shot earn coveted DJ slots at top music festivals worldwide. Past participants have performed at CRSSD (USA), Hideout (Croatia), BPM (Costa Rica), Snowbombing (Austria), Snow Machine (Japan), and Awake (Indonesia). Alumni include internationally recognized artists like Tigerlily, Sippy, and Go Freek, while 62% of participants now perform regularly or hold residencies globally. Supported by partners including JBL Audio, Pioneer, and Red Bull, the program has also worked with disadvantaged youth through initiatives backed by the Australian Government.
For its inaugural U.S. edition, Your Shot has enlisted visionary advisors such as producer and FEMME HOUSE co-founder LP Giobbi, Harvey Cohen, President at Live Nation Vibee, and management company The Circuit Group (Chris Lake, FISHER) to help guide participants and shape the program.
More than prizes, Your Shot offers lifelong skills, confidence, and community. Online registration is now open for Your Shot US 2025 and AU/NZ/UK 2026. In-person selection events will take place at Catch One in Los Angeles on September 13th and Elsewhere in New York City on September 20th.
