Would you believe a collaboration from Marshmello and Demi Lovato? Well, guess what? It’s happened and it’s an uplifting single titled ‘OK Not To Be OK’.
Honestly, this motto could not come at a more perfect time. Given the current state of things, it is definitely ok to not be ok. This music video shows Lovato and the helmeted guru in suburban bedrooms. They wake up and take off doing different things, concurrent with their lifestyles. He rides around the neighborhood on a bike while she trashes her room.
‘When you’re down and you feel ashamed, it’s okay not to be okay‘ — relatable? This track has a pop beat and for a song about depression, it’s not all that depressing. It flows with your emotions and watching the video might actually elate you. We see its release on World Suicide Prevention Day, we have two motivational figures of their respective cohort reaching out to us.
“I think it’s just such an important subject. I think a lot of people, about negative feelings and negative thoughts that are affecting them, are kind of scared to bring it up, scared to talk about it. When in reality, they’re scared because maybe the person won’t relate or the person won’t understand, when in reality most of the time the person that you could bring it up to, will most likely have felt like this or will understand or can relate as well. So I think it’s very important to talk about it.” – Marshmello
So thrash about or release the angst inside you. Don’t be afraid to let things out and then let them go. Suicide Prevention starts with a conversation, since we never address our mental health due to stigma. Break that silence to dispel stigmas of fear, judgement, and shame about your internal experiences.
