Westeros and the EDM world collide as The Chainsmokers join HBO’s unique marketing campaign to promote A Knight of Seven Kingdoms.
HBO‘s marketing team has gotten really creative promoting A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, the latest spinoff in the Game of Thrones universe. This time, The Chainsmokers have joined in on the fun.
The television network partnered with TaskRabbit, a platform that connects people with local freelance workers for everyday errands and chores, to bring its “Squire for Hire” campaign to life. In medieval terminology, a squire is the official name of a young apprentice to a knight. With that in mind, HBO and TaskRabbit are hosting a contest to win your own TaskRabbit squire for a day to help with whatever tasks you need. Meanwhile, 10 runner-ups will receive $200 in TaskRabbit credit.
The Chainsmokers hopped on the campaign with an Instagram video of their own squire in medieval garb helping them with everyday tasks. The tasks ranged from trimming the hedges with a sword to unsheathing it in the studio, prompting The Chainsmokers to use the metallic whoosh as a sample for the song they’re working on. TikToker Noah Beck and Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch also made their own videos to promote the contest.
A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” predates the events in Game of Thrones by 100 years. The story follows a young yet naive knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg, on their travels through a Westeros still under Targaryen rule.
The first episode of A Knight of Seven Kingdoms aired on January 18, with new episodes releasing every Sunday at 10 pm ET. Stream A Knight of Seven Kingdoms on HBO, and enter the “Squire for Hire” contest if you’re interested in acquiring your own squire for a day. The contest closes on February 12.
