Slow Joy Returns with “SLC Punk On An SSRI” Ahead of New Album and Tour

Today, Slow Joy, the Alternative Rock project led by Esteban Flores, makes a compelling return with the release of his latest single, “SLC Punk On An SSRI.” Released via MDDN Records, the track serves as a pivotal moment for the artist as he prepares for his upcoming headlining “I Love You So Much I Could Die Tour” and the release of his sophomore album, Esteban Flores.

The single is accompanied by an official music video, further expanding the visual narrative that has become a hallmark of the project. For Flores, “SLC Punk On An SSRI” represents more than just a new release; it is the crystallization of a sonic identity he has been refining for years.

“I wanted to make a song (and album) that I’d be proud to show to my heroes. Something that an Isaac Brock might actually fuck with,” says Esteban Flores. “It’s one of those songs that I would still love even if everyone I know told me it wasn’t good. Also, the title is gold.”

The track was recorded with producer Brett Romnes, whose resume includes work with notable acts such as Hot Mulligan, Oso Oso, and Anxious. The production leans into the heavier, more abrasive side of the Slow Joy sound, utilizing dense distortion and layered guitars to mirror the internal intensity of the subject matter—specifically, the disorienting headspace experienced before beginning medication.

Since its inception, the project has been defined by its raw emotional honesty. Emerging from a period of personal grief, Slow Joy quickly garnered attention with early releases like “Soft Slam” and “Crawling,” establishing Flores as a standout voice in the modern alternative scene. His debut album, A Joy So Slow At Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming, further cemented this reputation, earning widespread critical acclaim.

The momentum continues with the announcement of the “I Love You So Much I Could Die Tour.” This 21-date North American run will feature support from Bike Routes, Glom, and The High Curbs. The tour is set to visit major markets including Austin, Phoenix, Denver, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Atlanta, before concluding in Dallas on August 14.

With this latest release, Esteban Flores continues to push the boundaries of his songwriting, balancing abrasive sonic textures with profound emotional depth. “SLC Punk On An SSRI” stands as a testament to his artistic growth and sets a high bar for the forthcoming album era.
