Pasquale Rotella Announces New LA Waterfront Festival for Summer 2021

Fresh off moving the remaining festivals this year to 2021, Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella has unveiled a brand new event. Called Day Trip Festival, the show will feature “Peace, Love, and House Music All Day Long.” The new festival is slated for July 3 at Pier 46 on the sunny Los Angeles waterfront.

“It’s a place to soak in the sun, breathe in the ocean air & dance together at multiple stages of house music—complete with an epic fireworks display over the Pacific Ocean,” Rotella wrote on his social media platforms on Sunday.

Finding new venues in Los Angeles is never easy, according to Rotella. So this one looks like a great find. A promotional poster for the event shows the festival grounds jutting out from the land and surrounded by water.

The future is bright!?☀️ Finding new venues in LA is never easy, but for July 3rd we’ve locked in a BEAUTIFUL one— Pier…

The image was taken from the Port of Los Angeles Outer Harbor Berth 46. It is a temporary cruise ship dock and public event venue on the L.A. waterfront. In addition, Berth 46 features 360-degree views of Cabrillo Beach and San Pedro Bay. And it is the “ideal outdoor venue in Southern California for concerts, festivals, or sporting events,” according to its website. Its past events include Cirque du Soleil TOTEM, Red Bull Global Rallycross and The Growlers Six. The address is 3011 Miner Street in San Pedro, California.

Limited passes for Day Trip Festival go on sale this Thursday. There is no indication it is a drive-in or socially distanced show, so hope remains for returning to normalcy. Insomniac has not released the lineup. But stay tuned on Monday for updates and more information from Insomniac.

“The future is bright!” Rotella wrote.

All Festivals Postponed to 2021

Day Trip Festival comes just a few days after Rotella announced that he decided to postpone all of its 2020 festivals. Rather, Insomniac is focusing on InsomniacTV with livestreams and virtual rave-a-thons.

“As you might have imagined after we moved EDC Las Vegas to May 2021, we will be shifting Nocturnal Wonderland, Escape Psycho Circus, EDC Orlando & Dreamstate SoCal to 2021 as well,” he said. “I see a bright & amazing future ahead and can’t wait to be with all of you on the dancefloor once again!”

Besides being a new event, Day Trip Festival reflects Insomniac’s growing commitment and investment in house music. For instance, Rotella announced that Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas would for the first time welcome a skyLAB stage dedicated to house music. Accordingly, this ninth and newest stage is EDC’s “only location devoted exclusively to house music.” Rotella has not yet discussed EDC 2021 logistics. However, all signs point to skyLAB being a part of it.
