After nearly 13 years, Jauz is indefinitely stepping away from his artist project “to make way for what comes next.”
It’s the end of an era — for now, at least.
Sam Vogel, known professionally as Jauz, has shared that he plans to discontinue playing and performing music indefinitely. The announcement caps off a 12-year run that saw him cement himself as a permanent fixture of bass house and adjacent dance music styles.
“After these next few shows, I’ll be taking break from playing shows or putting out music as Jauz for the foreseeable future,” wrote Vogel in a statement. “With that in mind, it only felt right to do a proper Retrospective type set for my show at Academy this weekend, in the city that made all my wildest dreams a reality. A truly extended set for my day ones and OG sharksquad, featuring the records that shaped my career from 2014 all the way to today.”
The Academy LA show in question is set to take place on Saturday, March 14, with support from fellow DJs Crumb Pit and UNOMAS. After that, Vogel appears keen to take his music in a different direction. It remains to be seen whether the Jauz project will still have a place in his vision.
“I’m not going away forever — but I’m closing the chapter on this part of my career and life to make way for what comes next,” Vogel explained. So If you want to live in this chapter one last time, I’Il see you on the dancefloor Saturday.”
The name Jauz was practically synonymous with bass house at the height of the North American EDM explosion, not the least of which for Vogel’s wildly successful 2014 club hit, “Feel The Volume.” In the years that followed, he showcased his versatility with big-name collaborations like “Squad Out!” with Skrillex, “Magic” with Marshmello, and “Gassed Up” with DJ Snake.
So what’s next for Sam Vogel? That’s anybody’s guess. But whatever it is, we hope it broadens the creative horizons of an artist clearly capable of reinventing himself.
