Four months after Danielle Moore of disco and funk group Crazy P suddenly passed away, her family has issued a statement regarding her cause of death.
In August 2024, Crazy P lead singer Danielle Moore died at age 52 under what the disco and funk band described as “sudden and tragic circumstances.” The vocalist’s family has now shared that a coroner report concluded that she died by suicide.
Moore was hit by a train in King’s Heath, Birmingham on August 30. The city coroner determined that her transition into menopause had “more than minimal impact” on her wellbeing, further exacerbated by Crazy P’s busy summer tour schedule.
In a statement on behalf of her family, Moore’s husband, James Ensell, wrote, “Although this conclusion was expected, it is still confronting. We are still reeling from her loss and cannot comprehend that she is gone.”
“Whilst we will never fully understand why Danielle took her life, we know that how she died bears no relation to who she was in life,” the statement continues. “Danielle cared deeply about the well-being of others and the world in which she lived. She was pained by social injustice and the impact of consumerism. She was an empath, instinctively compassionate and loyal, nurturing the truest of connections with the people in her life. The image of human kindness and generosity of spirit.”
Ensell went on to share that Moore “overcame two periods of significant mental ill-health in the distant past,” regaining her will to live after getting through “what had seemed, at those times, to be intolerable.” He then drew awareness to the “neurological and psychiatric symptoms” that can arise during perimenopause. “They say that to be forewarned is to be forearmed, so if any good can come from Danielle’s death, perhaps it will be increased awareness and understanding of the impact that the perimenopause can have on women’s mental health,” he wrote.
Having grown up outside Manchester, Danielle Moore spent time at the city’s most historic dance music hotspot, The Haçienda, starting when she was 18. She joined Crazy P in 2002, and the band found its big break thanks to 2008’s Stop Space Return on 20/20 Vision Recordings.
Crazy P discontinued touring in the wake of Moore’s death. They returned in November with Any Signs Of Love, an album completed prior to her passing and dedicated to her memory.
