Following a surprise reveal during her Coachella performance this past April, Ninajirachi has officially released her highly anticipated collaboration with Porter Robinson, titled ‘WannaCry.’ The track, which has been a staple in both artists’ live sets across Washington, D.C. and Sydney, Australia, is now available via NLV Records.
‘WannaCry’ draws its thematic inspiration from the 2017 cyberattack of the same name, adopting the perspective of the virus through its lyrical narrative. The production opens with an infectious, upbeat intro that transitions into a romantic sentiment, highlighted by Nina’s vocals and the poignant line, “I’ve got a charm, I wanna put it on your heart.”
For fans of Porter Robinson, the track serves as a notable return to his electronic roots while seamlessly integrating the sonic evolution showcased on his recent album, SMILE 😀. Robinson contributes vocals to the second verse, grounding the track in his signature emotional depth. The production is characterized by a catchy lead melody and drops filled with deliberately glitchy, computerized textures that reflect both artists’ mastery of digital-age sound design.

To celebrate the release, the duo sat down with triple j Radio to discuss their creative process, the origins of their partnership, and the electric atmosphere of the Coachella premiere. During the interview, Ninajirachi hinted at further unreleased material, suggesting that this collaboration may be the first of many. Watch the full conversation below.
