Miami DJ Sets Guinness World Record While Running a Marathon

Fitness and electronic music have long shared a symbiotic relationship, but Miami-based artist Eddy Palermo has taken this connection to an unprecedented level. In a remarkable display of endurance and technical skill, Palermo has officially set a Guinness World Record for the longest DJ set performed while running.

According to reports, Palermo is the first individual to successfully complete a marathon-distance run while simultaneously maintaining a live DJ performance. The feat was accomplished on August 8th, as he navigated the Underline, a 10-mile linear park stretching from Brickell to Dadeland in Miami.

A Musically Inclined Marathon

Palermo’s journey was no small undertaking. He covered 46.7 kilometers over the course of 8 hours during the initial event, later returning to the treadmill to finalize his 50km goal. To facilitate this, he utilized a custom-built, self-pushed DJ rig on wheels, ensuring his equipment remained mobile throughout the grueling trek. He broadcasted the record attempt using an AlphaTheta OMNIS DUO controller paired with 8 WAVE EIGHT speakers, allowing the public to engage with the performance in real-time.

“That was a wild ride. That was the longest DJ set I’ve ever played, and the 2nd longest run in my life. Doing both at the same time is hard to describe. Not to mention this was peak Miami summer heat and I pushed a 70lb cart the whole time. Sometimes I was deep in the pain cave and would go ‘Oh no, I have to DJ right now’ as the song was ending.”

The initiative, dubbed BPMATHON, was created by Palermo to bridge the gap between endurance fitness and the electronic music community. Beyond the athletic achievement, the event served a charitable purpose, raising funds for the Miami-based nonprofit Friends of The Underline, an organization dedicated to developing public spaces that promote community health and activity.
