This song from We Are Gold and Tomi Saario is the best! From the tropical vibe to the lyrics, I can’t get enough.
If something sounds familiar, it’s because ‘Coconut Water’ was built around a sample of Spandau Ballet’s chart topping classic ‘True’ which has received the seal of approval from the 80’s hitmakers.
Speaking about the track, We Are Gold said:
“The making of ‘Coconut Water’ was special. At first we had a song with a chord progression that was similar. The track had an 80’s vibe to it but we were stuck and didn’t know where to take it. It was missing something. We forgot about it for a while until we heard Spandau Ballet’s legendary ‘True’ again. That instantly gave us the idea to use the classic “Ah Ah Aaaah” sample and finish the song.”
And Tomi:
“When We Are Gold sent me a message asking if I could be a part of their new song featuring a sample of Spandau Ballet’s ‘True’, it was honestly a no brainer for me. I’ve always been a big fan of the original, so it was amazing to have this opportunity to make a summery track inspired by it and bring it to 2020.”
