Majo Najas will take you on a lovely musical journey with her latest track, ‘Alma Lejana’. It took me just a few seconds to completely fall in love with this song.
The Ecuadorian artist said the song is her personal interpretation of a traditional Ecuadorian song belonging to the emblematic genre, Pasillo.
“I started a journey where my main goal was to create contemporary renditions of many patrimonial works to encourage younger generations to listen to traditional music and to value Ecuador’s culture. Alma Lejana is a song about a man who has given his all to the woman he loves, and even though she does not love him back, his feelings for her are so pure and big that he doesn’t give up on her. The feeling and the poetry behind these lyrics reflect the sentimentalism that was present in early 20th-century Ecuadorian societies, where music was the biggest form of expression. This rendition, which will be the first single release for my upcoming album, is an alternative arrangement, that presents the usually heavily ornamented traditional song as a light, and emotional contemporary one.”
