Los Angeles producer Enamour has returned to the esteemed Crosstown Rebels imprint with his latest single, “What U Said.” The track serves as a masterclass in atmospheric electronic production, built around the evocative and tension-filled vocals of artist and producer SAM SHI. The release is further bolstered by a remix from label regular Bonafique, adding a new layer of depth to the project.
“What U Said” navigates the delicate intersection of deep house warmth and progressive lift. The track is conceptually anchored in the visceral moment when spoken words transition into physical reality—a fleeting second where a statement sets off a reaction that cannot be undone. SAM SHI’s vocal performance expertly carries this narrative, maintaining a tight, controlled tension that bridges the gap between playful energy and sultry sophistication.
“‘What U Said’ has been one of my favorites since Enamour and I first started working on it together, and every time I’ve played it in a set, I watch the whole room tap into that chemical tension,” shares SAM SHI. “There’s something about it that hits that perfect sweet spot between fun and sexy, and I live for that moment when you can feel it land.”
Enamour notes that the track aligns with the quirky, unexpected energy found in his previous work on the label. “It taps into the same quirky energy as my other records on the label, which I think heightens the feeling of surprise as the instrumental meanders underneath SAM SHI’s vocal,” he explains. The production remains fluid, allowing the vocal to take center stage while the underlying groove provides a steady, hypnotic pulse.
The accompanying remix by Bonafique preserves the original’s emotional weight while steering the composition toward a deeper, more driving groove. This approach is consistent with the duo’s reputation for instinct-driven production, further cementing their status within the Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, and Maccabi House circles.
This release follows a productive summer for SAM SHI, who recently featured on Nico Szabo and Aske Izan’s “Aside” via Anjunadeep Explorations. Her ability to anchor tracks for some of dance music’s most respected rosters continues to solidify her position as a rising talent. For Enamour, born Michael Gold, the single marks a significant follow-up to his 2025 Hippy Flip EP. With a catalog that spans deep house, progressive house, and techno, and support from industry titans like Black Coffee and Solomun, Enamour remains a pivotal figure in the modern electronic landscape.
