Swiss-Brazilian Alt-Pop artist Caroline Alves has released her new single, “Innocence.”
Produced by Louis Ryan (Hozier, Karen Harding) and released via SOAP Music, “Innocence” is a dreamy and emotional track from Caroline Alves, capturing the intensity and recklessness of loving someone before you have enough life experience to know when it might not actually be such a good idea to launch into it headfirst.
“I wrote ‘Innocence’ about the beautiful chaos of loving someone with your whole heart before you know better,” says Alves. “It’s about being naive enough to believe love can heal everything. I also used a different kind of approach during the songwriting of this track; I wanted this song to be very descriptive and sound like an image or a movie. So you could actually paint or make a script out of my lyrics.”
Gently shimmering with a pulsing bassline, the lyrics of “Innocence” are tender and wanting, with enough of a warning in them to get the artist’s point across. As she sings
“diamond flash like a heart attack/you tear my heart, and I still come back,”and towards the end of the song, the refrain, “I still come back” repeats several times. The refrain suggests Alves is realizing the madness of trying the same thing several times and somehow expecting different results.
“Innocence” is bright and catchy – with a hook that will compel listeners to keep it on repeat.
