Popular streaming platform Spotify innovated a lot this year. A wide range of new platform functions are now available for users to enjoy, including lyric lookup and Spotifycharts. Moreover, another new feature that Spotify is thinking about is a premium podcast subscription.
Spotify tested the waters by sending a survey out to platform users asking for their thoughts on a potential premium podcast subscription. An employee notes:
“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of surveys in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience, and others serve only as important learnings,” the spokesperson remarked. “We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”

There is talk of offering this service ranging from $3-9 each month. The cheapest option will feature ads, which is similar to music streaming. However, this could get complex due to the $9.99 service that already includes streaming.
We’re unsure how Spotify will go about offering this service – or if it’ll even end up happening (like the potential karaoke feature). What we do know, however, is that podcasts are in demand. Listeners want this kind of content, and the demand for it is only growing. Spotify reports:
Spotify has over 299 million listeners across 92 markets worldwide just waiting to discover podcasts like yours. We’re the second most popular place to listen to podcasts in the world — and growing fast. Our podcast audience has nearly doubled since the start of 2019.
