The legal troubles for Chicago nightlife figure Dino Gardiakos have reached a definitive conclusion. A judge has sentenced the Spybar co-owner to six years in federal prison this week after he entered a guilty plea in a significant ketamine smuggling case.
Authorities initially apprehended Gardiakos in March 2024 upon his arrival at Chicago O’Hare International Airport following a flight from London. According to federal investigators, a search of his luggage revealed approximately six kilograms—nearly 14 pounds—of ketamine concealed within various containers. Court records indicate that Gardiakos admitted to purchasing the illicit substance in London and receiving specific instructions from the seller on how to bypass customs security.
A History of Legal Complications
This conviction represents the second time Gardiakos has pleaded guilty to serious narcotics-related charges since 2022. At the time of his 2024 arrest, he was already serving a term of probation stemming from a previous drug investigation. That earlier case originated from a 2021 raid on his West Town residence, which was initiated after law enforcement intercepted a package shipped from the United Kingdom.
During the 2021 investigation, prosecutors alleged that they discovered a cache of controlled substances, including ketamine, cannabis, THC concentrate, and psilocybin mushrooms, alongside evidence of drug distribution. While he initially received probation for a single possession charge in that matter, the latest sentencing has resulted in the termination of that probation, leading to his current six-year prison term.
