Two original paintings created for Tomorrowland’s 2026 Consciencia theme have been stolen during the festival’s opening weekend in Belgium. This case of stolen artwork has raised significant concerns among organizers and attendees alike, casting a shadow over the immersive experience the festival is known for.
The stolen artwork, titled ‘Love’ and ‘Desire,’ is part of a collection of six commissioned paintings displayed inside the Tomorrowland Restaurant. Each piece represents one of the six universal emotions that inspired this year’s festival theme, with the remaining four pieces—Wonder, Anger, Joy, and Sadness—still on display.
Tomorrowland confirmed the paintings disappeared despite security being present in the surrounding area. The organizers have appealed for the artworks to be returned so guests attending the second weekend can experience the exhibition as it was originally intended.
“We hope the collector who now has these works at home realizes they belong at Tomorrowland, where everyone can enjoy them.” – Debby Wilmsen
The paintings form part of Consciencia, Tomorrowland’s newest creative world. This year’s theme explores six universal emotions through artwork, architecture, and storytelling woven throughout the festival grounds. The six commissioned paintings were created as an extension of that concept, giving visitors another way to experience the world beyond the mainstage.
Over the past two decades, Tomorrowland has become known for anything but a straightforward music festival. Each year the annual theme creatively weaves its own visual identity, characters, and mythology between each stage. Consciencia continues that tradition, with the theme also set to appear at future Tomorrowland festivals outside Belgium.
While the paintings represent only a small part of the overall production, they were commissioned specifically for this year’s festival and cannot simply be replaced by generic artwork. Their disappearance leaves the Consciencia collection incomplete for visitors exploring the Tomorrowland Restaurant. At the time of writing, Tomorrowland has not announced that the paintings have been recovered or released additional details surrounding the incident. Organizers are hoping the artwork can be returned before the second festival weekend begins.
