From residencies in Switzerland to performances across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Sebastian Konrad has built a career that extends far beyond the traditional boundaries of the DJ booth. Rooted in house music and rave culture and shaped by a multidisciplinary outlook, the Swiss-born artist is developing an increasingly impressive international presence.
Electronic music careers rarely follow a straight line. For Konrad, years spent building from Switzerland’s club scene toward international stages have brought him to a pivotal moment. His journey now sees his residencies, global performances, and growing support for his productions converge with a wider creative practice that spans fashion and visual culture.
A Multidisciplinary Creative Identity
Born in Basel, Konrad began producing music at 17. While his early experiments focused on house and deep house, he committed more seriously to his craft in 2019. His formative experiences behind the decks at youth parties in Switzerland provided an early, essential education in the symbiotic relationship between a DJ and the dancefloor. Over time, his sound has evolved from lo-fi and deep house into an expansive blend of house, tech house, and progressive textures. As he noted in an interview with Numéro Netherlands, he prefers to keep his genre-defying sound simple: “I like to call it ‘Sexy Music.’”
At the center of this philosophy is the dancefloor. Konrad’s music is defined by dynamic percussion, hypnotic melodies, and atmospheric detail. His approach to DJing remains fundamentally human-centric; he prefers to react to the room in real-time, adapting his sets to the specific setting, time of day, and crowd energy. “My DJing is fully freestyle,” he explains. “It really depends on the setting, the time of day, the crowd, and even the country.”
Expanding the Global Footprint
This adaptability has been crucial as his international profile has surged. As a resident at Basel’s Nordstern—one of Switzerland’s most respected electronic music institutions—Konrad honed his craft alongside leading global talent. His association with Naturklang has further solidified his reputation, connecting him with a platform known for staging events in distinctive locations and fostering a tight-knit community around contemporary club culture.
Konrad’s international footprint now spans from Mexico to Bali and Mykonos. In London, he has commanded the stage at Drumsheds, the 15,000-capacity venue that has quickly become a cornerstone of the European electronic circuit. In Istanbul, he has appeared at the renowned Klein Phönix. Regardless of the venue’s scale, he maintains that interaction is paramount: “When I’m playing, the most important thing is interacting with the crowd, looking at people, smiling at them, and taking them on a journey.”
Production Success and Creative Vision
His rising profile as a producer has developed in tandem with his touring career. Recent tracks have garnered support from industry heavyweights including ARTBAT, Armin van Buuren, and others, placing his music directly into clubs and festivals worldwide. This support demonstrates the resonance of his sound among established artists operating across the international electronic spectrum.
Beyond the booth, Konrad’s creative identity is multifaceted. Having moved to London to study Art Direction, he has cultivated a practice that encompasses fashion, design, and visual storytelling. His social media presence reflects a carefully curated aesthetic where sound, image, and lifestyle are interconnected. “As an artist, you are a brand anyway,” he says. With a history in fashion dating back to his teenage years, he has already secured collaborations with major lifestyle brands like Pull&Bear.
For Sebastian Konrad, the various strands of his career—DJing, production, fashion, and visual storytelling—are increasingly merging into a single creative language. His trajectory reflects the changing shape of the modern electronic artist: globally connected, visually aware, and fundamentally driven by the power of music to bring people together.
