Jonas Saalbach Returns to Purified Records with ‘Waterfalls’ EP

Following his ‘Data Romance’ label debut earlier this year, German producer Jonas Saalbach returns to Purified Records with his two-track ‘Waterfalls’ EP. This latest offering continues to refine a signature sound defined by emotional clarity and melodic precision.

The title track, ‘Waterfalls,’ unfolds around expressive vocals and a sense of forward motion, while ‘Wild Child’ shifts into a more playful, fluid space. Built on evolving melodies and lighter vocal textures, the track provides a stark, refreshing contrast to the release. Together, the EP captures a delicate balance between introspection and movement that has become central to the artist’s identity.

A Return to Roots

Reflecting on the creative process behind the project, Jonas Saalbach shared that his previous work led him to a moment of realization regarding his artistic direction. “With Data Romance, I realized I had been overthinking my music too much,” he explained. “I went back to my roots and tried to work with melodies first—no plan, no thinking about whether it fits current trends. That was the turning point.”

“Waterfalls is what comes next. ‘They say don’t go chasing waterfalls but I can’t help it—I want to feel the water on my skin.’ That feeling of just going for it, being curious and not questioning too much.”

Saalbach notes that the EP serves as a counterpoint to the functional nature of much modern dance music, opting instead for a more musical, cinematic perspective. The second track, ‘Wild Child,’ serves as a deeply personal homage to his son. “Watching him experience everything for the first time—the pure joy of creating without doubt, the curiosity, the energy, the complete freedom of living in the moment—reminds me every day what that really means,” he added.

A Legacy of Melodic Innovation

Spirited emotion remains the protagonist in Jonas Saalbach’s brand of electronic dance music. Having founded his Radikon imprint in 2018 alongside David Guzy, he has spent nearly a decade traveling the globe, performing at iconic venues such as Burning Man and Fusion Festival. His career is perhaps best highlighted by his awe-inspiring set on a cliff in the Norwegian fjords for Cercle, which reached over 17 million viewers.

The EP artwork, featuring an aerial shot of a waterfall captured by Venti Views, mirrors the sense of flow and movement found within the music. As the industry continues to evolve, Saalbach’s commitment to sophisticated, melodic storytelling ensures his place as a vital voice in the electronic landscape.
