Manchester-based drum and bass artist Bou has called off his US tour on account of his father’s struggle with lung cancer.
No artist likes to cancel shows, but some things inevitably take priority over connecting with your fans in a live setting. Right now, Bou knows this better than most. The Algeria-born, Manchester-based drum and bass DJ and producer has had to call off his upcoming US tour to be closer to his family while his father struggles with lung cancer.
“Hey guys, I’m gutted to share that I’ve had to cancel my upcoming tour this month in America,” Bou (real name Mohamed Amine Bouguenna) wrote in an Instagram post. “My dad has been battling with lung cancer and as of recent hasn’t been very well.”
The “Baddadan” collaborator continued: “I’m so sorry to everyone who was planning to come out and see me. This decision wasn’t easy, but right now my family needs me more than ever.”
Bouguenna’s family moved to Europe to escape the Algerian Civil War when he was five — first to France, then to the UK. His father was a civil engineer and his mother a singer. Bouguenna himself debuted as a DJ in 2014, started releasing music in 2015, and broke through after the pandemic thanks to collaborations like “Streetside” with Bru-C and “Deep” with Example featuring Nonô.
Bouguenna would have kicked off his second US tour of 2024 on September 19 at Celine in Orlando, Florida. After performances at Lost Lands in Thorneville, Ohio, Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak, Florida, and The Midway in San Francisco, it was scheduled to end with a November 2 gathering at Summit in Denver.
“Thank you for your understanding, love, and support,” Bouguenna closed out in his statement. “I’ll be back soon, but for now, please keep my dad in your thoughts.”
