Artists like Carl Craig, Orbital, and Luciano will perform at THE SUPER-MRKT, which Stranger Than; repurposed from a Koreatown supermarket.

From September through December, the Los Angeles underground will get to enjoy a brand-new pop-up venue. It’s called THE SUPER-MRKT — and like so many other compelling projects in that scene, the 3,000-capacity space was concocted by local collective Stranger Than;.

As its name suggests, THE SUPER-MRKT was repurposed from an actual supermarket in Los Angeles’ Koreatown neighborhood. The venue already hosted a 14-hour set by GORDO in May. Its soon-to-be-released schedule includes a Detroit Love show headlined by Motor City staples Carl Craig and Moodymann, a Boiler Room event, as well as billings like Adam Ten, Mita Gama, Orbital, Floating Points, Luciano, and Nico Moreno.

While THE SUPER-MRKT will offer daytime events, Stranger Than; Founder Tal Ohana has said that his goal for the space is to help revitalize LA’s after-hours scene.

While we can still have eight-plus hour daytime parties in open air parks and outdoor spaces with large dance floors, permitting and neighborhood compliances make it difficult to really tap into the early morning parties that are found in other electronic hotspots globally,” he told Billboard. “With the new space, we wanted to introduce this element to L.A.’s party scene.”

Ohana went on to say that “THE SUPER-MRKT provides a large indoor event space, unique architecture and most importantly a venue that is naturally beautiful for both day and night events,” and that it will “provide a space that is thoughtfully curated towards our house and techno music scene, more specifically aiming to provide elements not typically found in L.A. for fans in the lane.” He went as far as to call it “a precursor to a permanent venue by Stranger Than;.”
