Rising Danish artist Emi Wes shares her debut single, ‘Issues‘ which was produced by four-time Grammy-nominated producer and writer Robin Hannibal who’s best known for his work with Rhye, Quadron, Little Dragon, and Kendrick Lamar on good kid, m.A.A.d city.
The song premiered earlier this week on FLOOD Magazine, who proclaimed, “The track is driven by a slow, romantic piano and poetic introspection. Working with writer and producer Robin Hannibal, Wes was able to bring her visions to life.”
Of the song, Wes explains, “Over the years, these have been the lines of my life. It’s really about not being frightened of appearing vulnerable.” She continues, “The instrumentals, the strings and Robin’s chords just gave me the words to a feeling I had in me. I guess it was also important for me to address that I have issues too, because we all do. Sometimes saying it loud makes it more okay. For me it’s a sign of strength being able to say the less pretty out loud.”
Earlier in her career, Wes immersed herself in the writing process, which enabled her to work with various Danish and foreign songwriters within diverse genres. These cross-genre experiences helped Wes develop the core of her musical foundation. Over the past year, Wes entered into a new collaboration with renowned producer Hannibal. The close partnership between the two morphed Wes’ current musical identity and set the stage for her to release new music within the coming months.
