The big MTV’s European music awards EMAs were canceled two weeks prior to the event. Paramount announced the event taking place in Paris this November 5th was no longer happening. This is the first time the event is a no go since its launch in 1994. The EMAs still took place during the 2020 Pandemic.
A Paramount spokesperson announced :
“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life…”
The MTV EMAs made a statement to keep its employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners safe, since most would be traveling. The spokeperson added that it should be a time for mourning and that the company will be happy to host again in 2024.
Multiple world class artists were on this year’s lineup, including David Guetta, Ozuna, and Coi Leray. And, over 150 countries would’ve broadcasted the show. It is understandable of the damage the situation is causing to the world. Recently, a Psytrance festival in Israel was attacked by Hamas terrorists. Moreover, multiple other abhorrent events have taken place in Israel and Gaza.
“The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning.”
