“I’ve realised i can’t make the music/art that i want if i’m this exhausted and on planes all the time,” wrote Eptic.
From overseas conflicts to all manner of health crises, countless factors can lead DJs to pause their tour life. For Eptic, it’s more simple than that. The Belgian DJ and producer wants to spend more time in the studio — and, apparently, increase the quality of that time.
Eptic (real name Michaël Bella), who noted that he’s “been able to do something i love for almost 15 years now,” gave fans insight into how he’d been feeling about his career on Instagram. “The reason for this post is that I’m going to take a break from touring for a while,” he wrote. “I’ve been travelling the world pretty much constantly since I was 17, and while I wouldn’t trade those experiences for ANYTHING, I’ve realised i can’t make the music/art that i want if i’m this exhausted and on planes all the time.”
To be fair, Bella does allude to his health playing into his decision. “I’m going to take some time to finish and write music, work on my health and spend time with family and friends,” he wrote. “If that’s a couple of months or longer is up in the air; I can’t really say.”
Bella, who specializes in heavy bass music, first started gaining career momentum for his 2012 EP, Like a Boss, on Never Say Die Records. He continued to release on the label regularly in addition to collaborations with the likes of Habstrakt, Dillon Francis, Jauz, and Marshmello. In 2022, he released his debut studio-length album, The End of the World.
“Im sorry for those of y’all that are disappointed, just wanted to be square with you instead of just disappearing,” Bella signed off. “I really love the fanbase we’ve created over the years and I’m excited to see where we can take it when i get back.”
