Today, a dark cloud looms over the dance music community as the news of i_o’s death leaves us all in shock and disbelief. As if 2020 could not get any worse, we have lost another great soul and artist. Garrett Lockhart (aka i_o), has been on a continuous rise up in the dance music community. According to the statements from his official accounts, i_o passed away on Monday, November 23rd, 2020. It pains us all to see a great artist, friend, and soul taken from us too soon.
Shortly after news broke of his death, many artists, friends, and fans have posted their reactions in reply. Many of the artists who’ve expressed their profound sympathies for his passing are also his friends, collaborators, and past colleagues.
In lieu of the pandemic, the dance music community, the artists, the fans–we are all facing the deprivation of our escape from reality. The somber note of our current, depressing times has affected us all in some way or another. Although you may see your favorite artist, or friend as seemingly normal and happy, remember to take a moment to stop and check up on them. Our time here is ephemeral, and we never know what tomorrow will bring us. Today, we lost a good one. A soul who excelled beyond anyone’s expectation with his peculiar creativity, work, and charisma. i_o created a movement that will most certainly live on. Our hearts are with Garret’s family and friends.
