Twice a year, the Editors & Staff Writers here at EDMTunes get together and vote on the best tracks of the year. We do this once at the halfway point of the year, and once again at the end of the year. This is our first edition of EDMTunes Best Tracks of 2019, and it’s chock full of amazing tunes.
This isn’t always an easy task, as countless tracks are released each month, let alone within the span of six. Below we count down 15+ of our favorite tracks of the year. With that being said let’s get this started.
The first entry on EDMTunes Best Tracks list is Alesso‘s track titled ‘Progresso’. The lead track off of his mixtape PROGRESSO VOLUME 1, ‘Progresso’ marked the Swedish Record Producer’s return to full form, as well as a brief departure from Pop music. Regardless of how you feel about Alesso’s more recent releases, this track cements the fact that Alesso has still got it. If you’re interested in hearing more, be sure to check out the full mixtape here.
Finnish DJ & Record Producer Yotto wowed us earlier this year with not just one, but two stellar remixes of RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s track ‘Underwater’. While both of these are standout tracks, the ‘Dawn’ remix is something else. The ‘Dawn’ remix features a grittier and deeper vibe, and is an excellent example of a remix done right. Be sure to check out both remixes here.
Teaming up for the first time on ‘Lighter Than Air‘ are MaRLo & Feenixpawl. This track is unique, in that it takes its influences from trance, techno, and house. The track features a beautiful vocal, paired with an even better drop. There is no doubting why this track made our list. You can stream this track here.
The first techno track to make this years EDMTunes Best Tracks list is Webhha‘s track ‘Third Wave’. If you’re a fan of the deeper sides of electronic dance music, this track is definitely for you. There is a pretty sick lead that comes in at approximately 3:33 which is to die for. The track is out on Adam Beyer‘s label Drumcode and can be streamed here.
Joining forces on our next entry are Fatum, Genix, Jaytech, and Judah. We see them team up on this instant classic titled ‘All In’. Originally premiered at ASOT 900 by Above & Beyond, this track is gold. As the saying goes, two heads are better than one, but how about seven? Be sure to stream ‘All In‘ here.
Hacking his way onto our best track list was none other than i_o. He makes our list with a remix of Above & Beyond‘s ‘ Alchemy‘. Easily touted as a fan favorite of A&B’s Group Therapy, it is interesting to see ‘Alchemy’ reimagined by the ‘Techno Malware Maestro’. Be sure to stream it here.
Madeon has been laying low the past few years, so it is easy to say that new music from the French DJ & Record Producer was a long time coming. ‘All My Friends’ marks the beginning of the Good Faith Era, and we couldn’t be happier. While this one definitley has more of a pop flavor to it, it is a standout track nonetheless. Be sure to stream ‘All My Friends’ here.
Easily one of the best music producers on the planet, there are few others who are able to compete with Armin van Buuren. The man is known for remixing his own tracks as club versions, so to see another producer release something worthy of an official release is amazing. This is exactly what happened with Slovakia based DJ & Record Producer ReOrder on Armin‘s ‘Lonely For You’. If you haven’t heard this one, be sure to stream it here.
There are few producer duos that actually live up to their hype, Dog Blood, is indeed one of those. While they were definitely away for quite a while, Skrillex & Boys Noize made the wait more than worth it with ‘Turn Off The Lights‘. You can stream ‘Turn Off The Lights’ here.
This list would not be complete without a track from trance titans, Above & Beyond. They make our list with their track ‘Distorted Truth’. The track is off their ‘Common Ground Companion EP’, and features that signature A&B sound. If you’re a fan of Above & Beyond, this is one you do not want to miss. You can stream the ‘Distorted Truth’ here.
No stranger to making ‘Top Lists” of all sorts, Martin Garrix makes this year’s list with his progressive house tune ‘Mistaken’. ‘Mistaken’ is a collaboration with Matisse & Sadko and further cements the fact that these three are untouchable when they come together. If you haven’t heard this one yet, be sure to check out both this track and the club mix here.
Spencer Brown enlists the help of Raito on their collaboration ‘Star Allies‘, and we’re absolutely loving it. ‘Star Allies’ is a techno and progressive trance cross over, and really, just an all around upbeat banger. If you haven’t heard this one yet, be sure to stream it here.
Earlier this year, Flume shocked us all as he dropped a surprise 17 track mixtape. Making our list is his track ‘Spring’, and if you’ve given it a listen I’m sure you can see why. While ‘Spring’ is definitely more on the eclectic side of the spectrum, it is awesome to see the Australian based DJ bring new sounds. This is one of the pioneers of future bass after all. Check out the full “Hi This Is Flume” mixtape here.
One of the harder tracks to make our list is to no surprise, also one of the best. Teaming up for ‘The Blood‘ are none other than Seven Lions & Kill The Noise. Taking heavy influences from both producers signature styles, this track is truly amazing. We get some parts dubstep, some parts psy-trance, and all parts awesome. Be sure to stream ‘The Blood’ here.
Russian born DJ & Record Producer ARTY started the year off strong with his track ‘Save Me Tonight‘. A euphoric, upbeat progressive house track, ‘Save Me Tonight’ allows ARTY to truly flex his production chops. ‘Save Me Tonight’ is reminiscent of Avicii’s earlier works, and to that, we’re not complaining. Be sure to stream it here.
Joris Voorn makes our list with his remix of Yotto‘s own ‘Walls‘. Coming in at 7 minutes, Voorn’s ‘Walls’ remix is quite the musical journey. Staying true to his source material, Voor’s remix contains the original melody intact, albeit with his signature spin. If you haven’t heard this one, be sure to stream it here.
Fisher. The man is one of the dance music’s most beloved treasures. He’s been nominated for a Grammy, headlined the top festivals, and even topped the Billboard charts. We all know his track ‘Losing It’, and now we know ‘You Little Beauty‘.
You Little Beauty’ is the first single the Australian based DJ & Record Producer released since ‘Losing It‘ and it is just as good as we expected. If you’ve found yourself on a dancefloor any time in the last 6 months, I’m sure you’ve found yourself vibing to this tune. If you somehow haven’t heard this one, be sure to give stream it here.
Who better to top EDMTunes Best Tracks list than the late Avicii. 2019 saw the release of his posthumous album, ‘Tim’. Featuring 12+ tracks, the album was a godsend for Avicii fans around the world. The album just hit the number one spot on the Billboard Dance/ Electronic album charts, and for good reason.
Topping our list is his track ‘Tough Love‘ with longtime collaborators Vargas & Lagola. The track features a runtime of 3:11, so it’s not too long, but not exactly short either. We’ll understand if you play this one repeat if you haven’t already.
If you’ve yet to give ‘Tim’ a listen, be sure to do so here. While you’re at it, check out our full review of the album, and look behind the curtain at how it all came together.
That wraps up our list for EDMTunes Best Tracks of the year, thus far. Did your favorite make the list? If not, be sure to shoot us a comment and let us know what track you think should of made the cut. Happy listening.
