Bass Therapy Owner Accused of Sexual Assault

A shocking controversy is playing out on social media after ***ual assault allegations emerge against a Seattle label owner. In grave detail, Rachel (known online as Rose Aye) posts a shocking story recounting events with very serious implications. Since her Wednesday afternoon post, the drama continues unfolding with a wild back-and-forth leaving many in the community on edge. As a result, Jacob Wells, owner of Bass Therapy and DJ for SoSleepy is striking back with his version of the events.

In her story, the woman describes an awkward interaction with Wells at a Bass Therapy event early in the evening. Following that, she alleges he enters a room where she’s sleeping, forcibly kissing her, and ignoring her pleas to stop. According to her, this ends with a “clearly really f***** up” Wells eventually stumbling out of the room. Rachel goes on to say months later, he confronts her about the events, completely denying her story. Certainly, these are very serious and shocking allegations. However, she makes it a point to state that her intention isn’t to “…take him down or cancel him.” Seemingly, this is her way of healing through speaking her truth. Read her full post here:

*Trigger warning* This is so so hard for me to finally write down. But the more people I see coming forward with their…

Roughly four hours later, the Bass Therapy owner took to his Facebook account to clap back at the accusations. In his equally extensive post, he expresses a differing version of the altercation. Certainly, he denies any assault took place. Furthermore, he explains, in stark contrast, that he merely makes an attempt at finding his shoes in a dark room. What’s striking about his post, however, is that in it he makes references to his past inappropriate behavior. Indeed, it’s an interesting response to make when attempting to address a specific situation. Additionally, it’s eerily similar to what we’re hearing from Datsik. Check out his full response post here:

First and foremost I would like to apologize to Rachel and anyone else that this may have made uncomfortable. At times…

The Back & Forth

As is the usual circumstance, the situation is devolving into a he-said-she-said type of event. Unfortunately, Wells’ accuser finds herself defending against various accusations thrown her way in response to her story. Meanwhile, Wells is being met with vilification across multiple comment threads. You can see some of those for yourself here:

Alright, now that things have settled a little bit and I got some sleep and had time to mull things over, I figured I’d…

Apparently, the fallout of all of this is affecting others in the community too. Check out this post detailing Rachel’s apology to Kai Wachi.

I don’t know if any of you are connected to Kai Wachi but I just hope he receives my message. I love him and have supported him for years. I feel bad for this affecting his show.

What’s Next For Bass Therapy?

Surely, it’s tough to tell what the implications are for either side at this point. Particularly for Bass Therapy, Sosleepy and any of their future events. At this point, the fallout is still in its infancy. Moreover, it’s unclear if Rachel will be pressing any formal charges. Above all, this is a very sad and unfortunate situation that is starting to become the norm in the EDM scene. Regardless of the outcome, it’s a good thing that women like Rachel have the bravery to come forward. Clearly, from what she’s going through, she sees the importance of that notion. Along with that, this should be a wakeup call to artists and professionals in the industry about their own behaviors. Hopefully, the community will begin to open its eyes to this alarming trend and take a hard stance against ***ual assault.
