Open Mike Eagle is getting his own show on Comedy Central. The Chicago native and comedian Baron Vaughn have created a television series called The New Negroes, which is based on their comedy showcase the same name. The show will feature stand-up and musical elements while showcasing specific comedians.

“The show] taps into something that is so real and vital, it’s tapping into black comedy while presenting multiple points view and different angels on material and performances that is reflective the world we are living in,” Comedy Central president Kent Alterman told Deadline.

The series’ name is sure to bring it some attention, but Comedy Central has no plans to change it. Alderman wants Open Mike Eagle and Vaughn’s creative vision to play out just as they intended it on the small screen.

“I think they were really thoughtful when they arrived at that title,” he said.

The Comedy Central series will not be Open Mike Eagle’s first foray into television. The “Admitting the Endorphin Addiction” rapper previously appeared on an episode Adult Swim’s The Eric Andre Show, running through a “Rapper Warrior Ninja” obstacle course along with fellow MCs like A$AP Rocky and Danny Brown. Open Mike Eagle’s co-creator Vaughn currently stars as Tom Servo in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival and plays Nwabudike “Bud” Bergstein on Netflix’s Gracie and Frankie.
