I forgot where I was as I absorbed the music that Crystal Asige and Nairobi Horns Project has given us on, ‘Straight No Chaser’.
It’s unlike anything I’ve heard; it is such a powerful sound, and those horns are amazing, and I love that Crystal gives us those fiery Swahili lyrics.
The single talks about how on the surface a relationship may look beautiful and endless, but underneath that, the ground has grown cold and lifeless. It is clear to the girl that the boy isn’t who he says he is.
“I’ve held my tongue for long enough, I’m tired of pushing you to love. If you want to stay play your role, if you want to go you can go”, is a narrative that many women know all too well, Miss Asige says.
